    VTP (VLAN Trunking Protocol) is a Cisco proprietary protocol which allows to propagate VLAN database across Local Area Network (switching segment). VTP version 2 supports basic VLANs (2-1001) propagation, work with ISL protocol, supports authentication with MD5 hash. To enable vtp version 2:

    Switch(config)# vtp version 2

     

    To verify the VTP mode use:

    switch# show vtp status
    VTP Version : 2
    Configuration Revision : 0
    Maximum VLANs supported locally : 1005
    VTP Operating Mode : Client
    VTP Domain Name :
    VTP Pruning Mode : Disabled
    VTP V2 Mode : Disabled
    VTP Traps Generation : Disabled
